Arden Leo Swiger Sr Receives SAR Medal

On Saturday, May 02, 2015 at 6:00 a.m., Raymond M. Kane Jr., WVSSAR Registrar and Past President of the George Rogers Clark Chapter, had the privilege and honor of presenting the SAR Military Service Medal to Compatriot Arden Leo Swiger Sr. of the George Rogers Clark Chapter in a surprise presentation at the North Central West Virginia Airport located at Bridgeport, WV, where Compatriot Swiger was awaiting his “Honor Flight” trip to Washington, D.C.

Compatriot Swiger served in the Army from October 27, 1953 to October 26, 1955 during the final days of the Korean War. He served in the 216th Field Artillery as Hq btry clerk and the 55th Field Artillery as Btn Dispatcher.

Unknown to him until very recently, Compatriot Swiger had been selected by “Honor Flight” to attend special ceremonies at the various war memorials and activities in Washington D.c. to honor the military service of veterans to our Country. Compatriot Swiger proudly wore his SAR Military Service Medal as he awaited his “Honor Flight” to Washington D.C.

On behalf of the George Rogers Clark Chapter and the West Virginia Society, Sons of the American Revolution, we extend our gratitude and appreciation to Compatriot Arden Leo Swiger Sr. for his military service to our great Country and to the Sons of the American Revolution!

Compatriots Arden Swiger, Raymond M Kane Jr and other Compatriots will be switching their chapter memberships over to the new Tygart Valley Chapter as soon as we receive the new SAR chapter charter in the coming months which will make the new Tygart Valley Chapter fully operational.
