The Tygart Valley Chapter had a pre-organizational meeting on Saturday, September 6, 2015 from 2pm-4pm at the Beverly Bistro in Beverly, Randolph County, West Virginia.
There were various discussions about the Tygart Valley Chapter in general and the up-coming organizational meeting on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 6pm-9pm at the 1863 Grill in Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia.
A proposed Constitution and By-Laws for the Tygart Valley Chapter was presented, discussed and approved. Of special note was the provision of the newly approved chapter Constitution in which was provided for an ASSOCIATE of the Tygart Valley Chapter, which is a first for any chapter of The West Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
An Associate of the Tygart Valley Chapter is a male who has not met the membership requirements of the Sons of the American Revolution, but who adheres to the ideals and objects of the Sons of the American Revolution in general and of the Tygart Valley Chapter of the West Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution in particular. An Associate may attend meetings of this Chapter, march in parades with the color guard of this Chapter or generally support this Chapter but otherwise, an Associate does not have the rights of a regular member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
There was a discussion about the various Tygart Valley officer positions. An election of chapter officers was held and the following Compatriots were chosen as the officers of the Tygart Valley Chapter for 2015:
Chapter President – Raymond Kane Jr.
Vice-President – Dave Crawford (when application is approved)
Secretary – John Slaven
Treasurer – John Slaven
Registrar – Raymond Kane Jr.
Historian – Arden Swiger
Chaplain – Danny Linger (when application is approved)
The new chapter officers will be installed at the organizational dinner on Saturday, October 10, 2015.
